Choose this tour because….

This trip gives you the chance to walk in the footsteps of Danish author Karen Blixen – and you will soon come to realise why she found this East African gem so enchanting. You will cross the equator and have the opportunity to experience the fantastic and diverse wildlife in the Samburu and Masai National Parks, with the distinctive acacia trees that provide shade and shelter for the animals of the savannah. You will also view magnificent landscapes around the 5,000 km long Great Rift Valley, with its waterfalls, volcano craters and Lake Naivasha, which is famous for its hippopotamuses and rich population of birds. Moreover, you will have the chance to visit a Masai village and see the tall Masai people in their distinctive red clothes.

Following this exciting adventure, you will have time to relax in Mombasa, sunbathing on the white sandy beaches and taking an occasional dip in the azure water of the sea. You can also explore the city of Mombasa itself, strolling through the narrow streets and alleys in the old quarter, breathing in the scents of spices, and gaining insight into the local culture and history.

Day 6: Masai Mara

Today we head to the stunning Masai Mara National Park, the Kenyan part of the vast Serengeti ecosystem and in the rainy season, home to arguably the greatest concentration of wildlife.

Covering the fabulous plains we encounter large herds of elephant, wildebeest, zebra, hippo, giraffe, gazelle. These animals are prey to the hunting animals such as the lion, hyena, leopard and cheetah.
The next day we get even closer to a host of animals that are viewed from the protective Land Cruiser.

From July to October you can experience the 1,200-kilometer journey by over a million wildebeest, the Thompson gazelle and over a hundred thousand zebra, in search of fresh water and grass.   It is during this journey that some of the animals fall victim to the enormous Nile crocodiles when crossing the Mara River.

There is no better way to finish a safari than sitting by the fire, gazing at the large stars and listening to the night sounds of the savannah.

Day 8: Masai Mara

Today we set off again on a game drive into the Masai Mara.

If you wish to visit a Masai village, please arrange this with your safari guide in advance. The cost is 25 USD / approximately £16 per person (Not included in the tour price) and is paid directly to the Masai. The Masai people are proud people and live just as their ancestors did over 400 years ago.

The Masai people measure their wealth by the number of wives which they have and cows owned. The more they have, the richer they are. Women often live in their own huts and it is they who carry out work such as building and collecting firewood. This leaves their husbands with plenty of time for relaxation.
