Accommodations in Mauritius

Veranda Tamarin Mauritius

Tamarin Bay

Veranda Tamarin is probably one of the cosiest hotels on the west coast of Mauritius.

There are no high walls or electric gates here. Instead, there are hammocks, sand on the floor of the lobby and a cosy, charming and intimate atmosphere.

The hotel is situated at the scenic Tamarin Bay, which is home to pods of dolphins, and here on the west coast of the island, you will be blessed with the most stunning sunsets.

The hotel has 116 rooms, all with an en suite bathroom, air conditioning, tea and coffee making facilities, a minibar and free Wi-Fi. The rooms are very cosy and decorated with a good use of colours and are inviting, modern and retro all at once. All rooms have a private balcony/terrace. Each room comes with a “beach set” consisting of a basket of towels and beach mats, and you also get your own cool bag.

The beach is public and invites you to bring along a packed lunch and cold drinks in the cool bag, unpack the beach mats, lie down in shade and do as the locals do: play beach tennis, swim, read a book, snorkel – and simply enjoy local life. The hotel rents out hammocks, which you can also tie up between the trees on the beach.

If you’re more of a pool person, you can laze on the lovely sun loungers in the shade.

If you get hungry or thirsty, you can visit one of the two restaurants or three bars the hotel has to offer. The bar serves delicious snacks, wraps or sandwiches throughout the day, and in the evening, there is often live music provided by local up-coming bands. The bar is open to everyone, so the atmosphere is relaxed, cosy and local all at once.

Jump in the pool, visit the spa or engage in one of the hotel’s free activities: water gymnastics, boccia, snorkelling, etc., or climb into one of the hammocks and enjoy the view – Tamarin offers the ultimate in holiday relaxation!

Cash benefit!

If you stay at Veranda Tamarin for 4 nights, you earn rupees, which can be spent on a variety of excursions from the hotel.

For example, 2 adults who stay here for 5 nights earn 4,000 MUR, which can be spent on excursions from Tamarin.

What about a kayak ride at sunrise or a hike through Black River Gorge? A catamaran cruise is also pretty much a must or maybe a hike to a beautiful sunset spot?

The excursions are booked directly at the hotel, and the more nights you stay here, the more rupees you accumulate!

Veranda Paul et Virginie Hotel & Spa

Iko Mauritius Resort

Le Chaland Beach

Situated on the wild, unspoilt east coast of Mauritius – farthest to the south – is the fabulous 5-star Iko Resort. The hotel is part of the Anantara luxury chain and has everything you would expect from a 5-star resort.

From the time you step into the beautifully decorated lobby until you are settled into your lovely room, you will be aware of the attention to detail paid to the décor around you, which is both cosy and modern.

All 172 rooms have their own balcony or terrace and all have an espresso machine, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TV, and a fabulous bathroom with BOTH shower and bathtub.

You will probably spend most of your time here at the beautiful infinity pool, which overlooks the Indian Ocean. If you are looking to gather experiences, you have good hiking and biking trails right outside your door. Play a game of tennis or enjoy a good massage at the hotel spa – perhaps while the kids are having fun at the Kids’ Club or at the special children’s pool.

Blue Bay Marine Park is located a mere stone’s throw away from the hotel, but you don’t actually even have to leave the hotel area if you want to snorkel. In the ocean just outside the resort, efforts have been made to save the coral, so you can easily snorkel straight from the beach. For the same reason, motorised boats are not allowed to sail right near the hotel – so both you and the fragile coral get to enjoy some peace and quiet.

Grab an afternoon drink at the cosy bar before heading on to one of the hotel’s three restaurants, all of which have a character of their own.
