The tour in short

On this tour, you will experience the biggest highlights of Namibia. In Swakopmund, there is time to explore one of the most German cities in the world. The coastal town is known for its rich history and its wonderful architectural remnants from the German colonial era.

That Namibia is a land of contrasts becomes truly clear when you go from Swakopmund into the country, heading to the red sand and hundreds of metres-high dunes that stretch 2000 km along the blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean. It is here that you can find the world-renowned sand dunes of Sossusvlei.

From the capital of Windhoek, the tour continues towards Etosha National Park. Here you discover the country’s iconic and unique wildlife, including elephants, lions, leopards, giraffes, oryx antelopes, sable antelopes and white rhinos.

The tour takes place in a small international group with a local guide who knows the area and is with you all the way.

Please note that the tour takes place in small, international groups with an English-German-speaking guide.

Please note the following: In the case of departures on 10 August 2019 and 30 April 2020, you will stay at Tsauchab River Camp on days 4 and 5 instead of at A Little Sossus Lodge.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Departure from the UK

Today, you leave the UK and head to Namibia with connecting flights along the way.

Day 2: Arrival in Swakopmund

On your arrival at Walvis Bay Airport, you will be met by a local guide, who drives you to your hotel in Swakopmund. You spend two nights in Swakopmund.

Swakopmund as 47,000 inhabitants and is both Namibia’s biggest coastal town and its preferred holiday town, featuring a pleasant atmosphere and many tourist attractions. The city’s German colonial history can be clearly seen in its beautiful architecture, considered to be among the best-preserved examples of German colonial architecture in the entire world.

Day 3: Swakopmund

The day is spent at your leisure.

You can choose to spend the day on your own, experiencing the city, or you can choose to purchase an excursion.

Visit sites including the museum, the Crystal Gallery or the Aquarium. Perhaps you’re interested in a catamaran cruise in the bay, or maybe a trip with a quad bike on the big dunes. We can also warmly recommend a desert trip in the dune landscape between Swakopmund and Walvis Bay, where you can get closer to the incredible life that can be found there.

Day 4: Swakopmund – Sossusvlei

Today, it is truly made clear that Namibia is a land of contrasts. From the holiday atmosphere of the coastal town, you move into the country. Through the spectacular Gaub Pass and the small town of Solitaire, you reach Sossusvlei at the entrance to Namibia’s biggest national park, Namib Naukluft Park, which stretches across an area of 50,000 km2, bigger even than places like Switzerland and the Netherlands.

In the afternoon, there is an opportunity to purchase an excursion in the area, unless you would simply like to relax after the day’s drive.

Please note the following: In the case of departures on 10 August 2019 and 30 April 2020, you will stay at Tsauchab River Camp on days 4 and 5 instead of at A Little Sossus Lodge.

Day 5: Experiences in Sossusvlei and Sesriem Canyon

You start early in the morning and drive to Sossusvlei, where you experience the dramatic colour shift in the desert as the sun slowly rises.

If you like, you can wander to the peak of one of the world’s biggest sand dunes and enjoy the unique view of Sossusvlei and the dry lake Deadvlei, where dead, sculpture-like trees stretch their bare branches to the high blue sky. One dune in particular; “Dune 45”, is very famous, and is undoubtedly one of the most photographed sand dunes in the entire world.

Later in the day, you visit Sesriem Canyon, which is 30 metres deep and 3 km long, created by the waters of the Tsauchab River over millions of years.

Please note the following: In the case of departures on 10 August 2019 and 30 April 2020, you will stay at Tsauchab River Camp on days 4 and 5 instead of at A Little Sossus Lodge.

Day 6: Sossusvlei – Windhoek

You depart from hotel early once again. This is because if you reach Windhoek at a reasonable hour, there will be time for an afternoon city tour.

Windhoek is, aside from being the capital of Namibia, the country’s biggest city with 300,000 inhabitants. It sits at 1650 metres above sea level in a beautiful valley, bordering with the Eros Mountains in the north and the Auas Mountains in the South. To the west, the Khomas Highlands slope down into the Namib desert and the Atlantic Ocean.

Windhoek is a modern city with a clear architectural influence from the German colonial era. Windhoek’s city centre is situated at Independence Avenue and can certainly be explored on foot. The busy main street starts with Ausspannplatz in the south and stretches up to the district of Katutura in the north.

The evening is spent at your leisure.

Day 7: Windhoek – Etosha National Park

Today the tour continues north to Etosha via Outjo. Etosha is one of Africa’s wholly unique national parks. The park’s unique trait is the 5000 km² salt flats Etosha Pan, which is so big it can be seen from space. This enormous open area is the remains of a dried lake, and the white, almost infinite salt flats are fantastic and nearly surreal.

Despite the extreme conditions, there is still rich animal life here, and the park is considered to be among Africa’s very best places to see animal life, particularly around the watering holes, which also attract migratory birds, coming to nest.

Day 8: Experiences in Etosha National Park

Etosha National Park is among the tour’s biggest highlights, and today you are going on a game drive where you can see lions, giraffes, gnus, kudus, zebras and elephants seeking food and water, or who are taking a rest.

In Etosha, there are also excellent chances to see rare and utterly stunning animals and birds including eland antelopes (one of the biggest antelopes), the Damara dik-dik (one of the smallest antelopes), oryx antelopes with their long, black horns, black-faced impalas, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, bateleurs and the lilac-crested European roller with its very beautiful and colourful plumage.

Day 9: Etosha – Windhoek – departure day

The time has come to say goodbye to Namibia. From Etosha, the tour returns to Windhoek and the Airport, from which you begin the journey home – unless you would like to extend your tour by, for example, making a visit to Cape Town?

Day 10: Arrival in the UK

You land in the UK after an exciting and eventful holiday.
