Tailor-made tour: Safari in South Africa, Cape Town & Victoria Falls
Hi Neil – Well what can we say. We searched the internet last year and liked the look of your tour – not knowing anything about your company. From start in July last year until end of August this year you have been so helpful and pleasant to work with. When we told you of the plan we wanted, you took all our requests and put them to-gether, getting the best prices.
From the minute we left London on 10th August until the flight back to London on the 27th August everything went like clockwork. The SA Airways were excellent and the whole trip was first class. We had a ball and apparently we had the best villa on site at Bongani, our room at the Cape Manor in Capetown was eight storeys up and overlooked the sea and our room at Zambezi Sun which is now Avani Resort overlooked the complex and pool. All could not of been better. All transfers and pick up at the airports were on time and as planned.
Michael our co-ordinator and guide at Bongani was the very best, organised and very friendly. We had three meals outdoors in the boma with staff entertaining us after the buffet. All staff so happy and friendly. We were in a party of 13 – 11 being German and us 2. However, neither Michael (he is also German) and the rest of the party included us – as they all spoke English – limited at times as the “Scottish twang” can be difficult to understand. We just could not praise the staff enough there. When we went to Kruger Park – Echo Safari took us, and our guide Elsa B – she also took us to
Drakensberg mountains – was so knowledgeable and could reel of important dates and historical, political and nonsense facts. She put it all over in a humerous manner.
We did the tour of Cape in Capetown – beautiful – Rouben Island – amazing as an ex prisoner does the second half of the tour – this was the only day we had rain and we had to vacate the island due to the stormy sea – but we managed to complete the tour. Table mountain and the vineyards were great and we have some wine being sent home to us. Syd tried deep friedworms at the restaurant at Kirstenbush Gardens and I ordered crocodile tail as a starter. They were all out of crocodile, but Syd ate the worms. I had a taste, we both said they were okay but would not be in a hurry to order them againl
Our pick up from the airport mentioned that the hospital where Dr. Christian Barnard did the first heart transplant had a museum, so we sourced it and went there on the Monday. It was ever so good and I would recommend it to anyone. We also toured the diamond museum – it was very interesting, but unfortunately the diamonds were way out of our purse. However, the staff were very good and showed us many of the expensive pieces’ Our tour guide often visited Aberdeen as her granny lives there and was very interested as to where we came from etc. We ate at the hotel 5 nights – 4 of which were beautiful buffets – and this only averaged £25 – £30 that was the two of us with wine, the odd beer and tea and coffee.
When we got to Zambezi Sun we were greeted by four young lads dressed Zulu (I think) and they took us into the group and got our photos with crowns and shields – it was so funny and every time we came back to the hotel they welcomed us with big smiles and waves. We did the helicopter ride over Victoria Falls (I am not too fond of heights) but it was amazing. We did a steam train ride to see the sunset over Victoria Falls with a six course meal – it was absolutely great.
On Thursday we did a walk with Lions – that was amazing also and on the Friday we did an elephant ride safari and got to feed the elephants at the end of our tour. I thought my old bones would be suffering on Sat as I was quite stiff for a wee while when I got off – but surprisingly no aches or pains on the sat. After lunch time my husband announced he had always wanted a shot of a Segway ( think he is in old age crisis) first walking with lions, riding elephants and now Segway. We were taken round the site for about an hour – and neither of us fell off at all. To finish our holiday we did the sunset cruise up the Zambezi with drinks and nibbles. Bushtracks Africa had a desk at the hotel and we did all our tours with them (it was them that picked us up from the airport). Again first class organisation.
Everywhere we went – whether it be catering staff, vehicle drivers, or transfer drivers on the three stages – they are all wanting to find out about us and will often tell us the best things to see. Nothing is too much trouble and they are all so happy – I think some of our workers could learn a lot from them.
You will be fed up reading this, but we are two very happy OAP’s. Do not think anything will ever compete with this holiday. We did all we wanted to do, but there is still plenty for us to explore if felt we wanted to go back, that if the bank manager has not had a heart attack when he sees our spending, but we went with the opinion of no sense going all that distance if we did not do everything we wanted and take full advantage of all on offer while we are fit and able.
Once again Neil thank you and your colleagues for all your organisation and certainly will have no hesitation in recommending your company to anyone. We have already had a few folk asking who we went with.
Regards and thanks to you and all your team.
The whole experience was fantastic. From booking to, finally, coming home. The sales team were helpful and always on hand when random questions struck.
Everything was organised so we didn’t have to worry or stress about a thing, apart from ensuring that we had enough warm clothes for the climb!
The climb itself was incredible. The hotel before we started was comfortable and allowed us to mentally prepare and to relax before we went. Our guides were fantastic and definitely were the reason I got to the top – enthusiastic, encouraging with some African singing ensured that spirits remained high when we were feeling the strain of the altitude.
The camp sites were basic, but the atmosphere made sure that we didn’t worry about them and focused solely on the next day of trekking.
10/10 on all accounts. The food prepared by our local chef was good and gave us plenty of energy – at no point did we not have enough, if anything there was too much!!
On returning to the hotel, we were able to relax and get massages which were definitely needed!
Zanzibar was out of this world and the hotel we stayed in (Ocean Paradise) was a true surprise as it was absolutely gorgeous. We didn’t have to worry about anything and could just soak up the sun, visit some of the historic sites and catch up on much needed sleep!
Thank you for such a fantastic trip and for taking the headache of organising it all from us. All transfers were there and ready for us, all accommodation was well suited to our needs and the support and help from their UK reps was excellent.
Would / will definitely be using them again when I plan my next big trip.
Just got back from a 12 night holiday to Tanzania & Zanzibar. A group of 17 of us enjoyed a fantastic 6 nights on safari staying at Springlands Hotel, High View Hotel, Ikoma Wild Camp & Ngorongoro Wild Camp. Our 3 guides Tenga, Goddy & Henry were fantastic. Great fun to be with, very informative & easy going. We saw the big 5 & so much more. It was a truly wonderful safari taking in Tarangire National Park, The Serengeti & the Ngorongoro Crater. We all have such wonderful memories of a fantastic 6 days.
Onto Oceans Paradise Beach Resort in Zanzibar. A fabulous hotel on an idealic beach – really stunning. We stayed in the superior garden rooms on the beachfront – Spacious cottage-like round bombers – they are perfect. The scuba diving/snorkelling trip is a must – the sea life is beautiful. A trip to Cheetah rock – a sanctuary for orphaned animals is a special experience & fascinating to learn about. All in all a fantastic adventure holiday which we all absolutely loved 10/10
Dear Neil and all at Africasafari.
I just had to write to let you know how delighted I was with my safari.
I had a really marvellous experience and felt safe and well looked after all the time.
This was not only the furthest I have travelled but also the most culturally different and I was travelling alone. This made me very nervous and anxious before I left. Neil’s willingness to answer all my questions and your valuable advice helped to assuage all my fears – and you were right on all counts.
This tour is so all encompassing that very little spending money is needed. I did not go full board in Zanzibar but even with having to sort lunches and drinks in Zanzibar I spent very little – maybe £400 which includes a lot of tips and many presents too as well as a drink or two each evening! I think this makes it extremely good value.
The guide we had was brilliant, the hotels excellent, the camps stunning – it was even better than you described! Your service was perfect.
Once again, many, many thanks for the trip of a lifetime. I have already recommended you to one family and am happy to recommend your services anywhere – it was really magical.
Hi Neil and team.
Just back from the 9 day trip to Tanzania. I just had to email yourselves thanking you for such a fantastic trip of which I had always dreamed of and more. It fulfilled all my expectations and much more. Friendly helpful staff and locals, our guide Paul was fantastic, a credit to the company.
The accommodation and food were excellent, Safaris were out of this world, and magical for a first time experience! I also made a lifelong friend , a lady from Sweden, and we would both like to do it all again! My daughter is now saving to do it too !
Thank you so much for all your help and such a wonderful experience, very, very well organised 🙂
In Feb we had the most wonderful African experience which we booked through Africasafari.co.uk . We had 6 nights safari in Tanzania and 7 nights in Zanzibar. From the moment we booked our luggage into Edinburgh airport to our arrival in Kilimanjararo and throughout the holiday the service from staff was impeccable. This company is wonderful and we will have no hesitation in recommending it. We will certainly use it again. The manager, Neil Smith , was particularly helpful throughout. We spent 6 nights on safari which included 2 nights in High View Hotel and 4 nights camping in Serengeti wild camp and Ngorogoro camp. Breakfast and dinner were served in beautiful gardens in the hotel. The view over the hills was wonderful. Food and rooms were great and staff so accommodating.
The safari was outstanding and we saw every type of animals. To see elephants , lions, cheetah, leopard, wildebeest , rhino, to name but a few, in their natural surrounds is something we will treasure. The campsites were particularly comfortable and we just loved it. Food here also was very good. The programme the company put together was full with plenty of interesting sites. It also included a visit to a Maasai village which enabled us to learn about their culture and way of life. A lot of travelling is involved whilst on safari but every mile is worth it. We are well travelled but this experience is up there as one of the best. After leaving Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorororo we spent a week in in the Ocean Paradise Hotel in Zanzibar. Fabulous! Well done and a huge thanks to the company for putting together such a an amazing and unforgettable holiday.
Thank you for a great tour!
The whole thing was very professionally organised and run – the hotel and tented camps were excellent our driver Sam was great very laid back and calm – the whole thing went without a hitch and the animals we saw in all the parks and crater was amazing with up close experiences that would be hard to repeat – I would highly recommend your company – it was a great experience and professionally carried out – we are fairly well travelled and for a African experience which can sometimes be a bit random we were most impressed. On another side the Tanzanian people we met were just so friendly and welcoming.
After a total of 32 hours of climbing, including facing torrential rain, sub-zero temperatures and precarious rock climbs, this is to let you know about the successful summit of Mount Kilimanjaro by the team on Thursday 20th November 2014 at 9:30am EA time.
We successfully raised over £5,200 including that matched by Standard Chartered Bank for “Seeing is Believing”, a global initiative to tackle avoidable blindness across Asia, Africa, the Middle East and South America.
Thanks a lot and thank you for all your help to ensure it was a smooth trip. Much appreciated.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you whom contributed to the cause, I can assure you that your support will go a long way for those that need it the most.
Just a quick email to say that our travellers are all safely home from their trip.
They had an absolutely amazing time from start to finish and can’t praise your company highly enough for your high standard of service. Their guides were fantastic and made sure they wanted for nothing as did the hotel staff at Springlands. One of our travellers needed a gluten free diet and he was accommodated with this both on and off the mountain.
Anyway, we would have no hesitation in using Africa Safari again and may even peg on a safari at the end next time. We think we managed to raise an amazing £5,000 for our son’s charity to boot.
Thank you so much for all your help.
Good morning. I have done my trip to Tanzania. I just want to say thank you. It was the best the trip I have ever done so far. I enjoyed every step in the mountain and during safari trip. The local guide, Jeffery, and his team worked very hard. They were also very friendly. Here, with my best regards and respects to them.
I would also like to thank the guide for my two days safari trip. Unfortunately, I didn’t remember his name clearly. He took care of me very well. He helped me to spot most animals on the way. His explanation was also excellent. I had a very nice and memorable safari experience. Wish him all the best.
The entire arrangement for the trip was also very fluent and thoughtful. As customer, the only thing I need to concern was relaxing and enjoying. Thank you again. I will absolutely recommend you to my friends in the future.
What an amazing experience!
Having holidayed in Kenya, previously, we thought that was great but Tanzania blew it clean out of the water. My partner is a keen photographer and loves to photograph wildlife and didn’t know where to point her camera first! To see so many animals in one place was unbelievable. Herds of Zebra and Wildebeest, lions, leopards, cheetahs elephants everywhere, hippos rhino you name it we saw it!
Fabulous, fantastic must do experience and we will definitely do it again. After 6 nights of that we flew to Zanzibar for 6 nights of relaxation over looking the Indian Ocean. Our resort, the Ocean Paradise Resort, was perfect, white sandy beaches,Friendly and helpful staff, great food and amazing accommodation. All in all a fantastic holiday experience.
Well we are back and just wanted to say what an amazing time we had. Bongani is wonderful and we have made some lovely friends there. My girls cried when they left! Lisa your representative was a star, she did you proud. Got to know the staff very well and as my girls said it felt like home.
Once again thank you and to Lisa for a once in a lifetime experience.
Many thanks to you and all your team!
Thank you so much for making our dreams come true in Kenya and Zanzibar. Everything went really smoothly from the moment we were met by George, our brilliant driver, at Nairobi airport to our arrival back at Heathrow.
We were lucky to see Kilimanjaro in the morning sunlight from our lodge in Amboseli before our safari in the game park. Then on to a lovely meal at the Karen Blixen coffee garden before travelling to the beautiful Sopa Lodge at Lake Naivasha. An exciting early morning boat trip on the lake surrounded by pelicans and hippos was followed by our drive to the Maasai Mara along tiny unmade roads, visiting the Maasai village on the way.
The highlight of the trip was the whole day on the Mara. Thanks to George’s incredible driving and knowledge we found ourselves racing alongside a running rhino – what a drive!!! Then headed off to witness the migration across the Mara river – amazing. Plenty of lions, cheetahs, hyenas, giraffes, elephants as well as incredible birds too.
The final 6 days in Zanzibar at the lovely Ocean Paradise Resort were great. Beautiful cottages, superb food and friendly staff.
If you are thinking of booking this trip with Africa Safari do not hesitate. Neil the sales manager has been very helpful throughout.

Dear Mr Smith
I just wanted to pass on my thanks for the most amazing holiday we have had in Kenya.
The organisation of the whole trip by yourselves has been outstanding and from the moment we were met at Nairobi Airport by George our guide it exceeded all our expectations.
We must give special thanks to George who looked after us superbly and made our holiday what it was…amazing !
The lodges were beautiful, especially Ol Tukai which was our favourite for the quality and beauty of the rooms, setting, service and food.
Lake Navaisha Sopa Lodge was also beautiful.
Masai Mara Sopa Lodge was wonderful but the sound proofing in the rooms needs to be sorted as we could hear every sniff, yawn and conversation from the room next door !
Severin Sea lodge in Mombasa was beautiful and the rooms, service and food were wonderful.
The lunch arranged at Karen Blixen’s Coffee Restaurant was superb and probably the highlight of the trip for me was getting to see the the elephant orphanage at Nairobi ( thanks to George’s amazing organisation getting us there in time to see the feeding )
We were also amazed and pleased that our luggage that we last saw at Mombasa Airport when we left, arrived with us at Birmingham Airport !
Many, many thanks to yourselves for the best holiday we have ever had and especially George for making our dreams of seeing all the wildlife in Africa come true.
Ros and Russell Harris
We got back from Zanzibar on Monday after a fantastic holiday. The safari in Tanzania was fab, we saw all the animals, and close up too. I can’t stop thinking about it. Sam, our driver, was a ‘top bloke’ and very helpful and knowledgable. The company for the safari week was the best and we all got on well and had a good few laughs together. We took some lovely photos and we have exchanged emails to make the most of each other’s photos as well.
The hotel at Zanzibar was excellent, the food lovely and the staff so friendly, helpful and efficient. We just decided to chill for the Zanzibar stay and didn’t move from the hotel, apart from walking along the lovely beach and swimming in that lovely, warm Indian ocean. All in all it was a magical holiday, with great memories. The only thing we didn’t see was Kilimanjaro mountain – when we arrived it was low cloud! A good excuse to return!
A great holiday, and absolutely no problems at all with the flights.
Carole and Paul
If you could pass my compliments on to our guide Edwin, we would be really grateful. Please let him know that he was a fabulous guide, great company and really helped to make our safari experience amazing. We saw things that we couldn’t have imagined and he made sure we were in the right place all the time. We will remember the hyenas and the lioness forever! Please thank him for the most amazing first week of our holiday!
Nicola, Alan, Sam and Oliver
Just want to say a big THANK YOU to Africasafari and your partners in East Africa for giving us a wonderful tailor-made holiday.
Everything went like clockwork There was someone holding up a name board every time we got off a plane, which for 4 ladies aged 60-78 travelling as a private group, was a welcome sight. Throughout our trip the vehicles used were spacious and comfortable and the drivers and staff helpful.
The arrangements in Nairobi worked well.. the Sarova Panafric was excellent and the staff were friendly and food was beyond our expectations. Having our own vehicle and driver for the full day gave us complete flexibility and saved us a lot of money.
The safari team in Tanzania were excellent and having our own driver for the week again worked well for us. Mohammed (our driver/guide) was very patient with us stopping so we could take photos and observe the magnificent scenery and wildlife at our own pace.
Our Safari again exceeded our expectations.. this was my 5th trip to Africa and it was the best!!
Then Zanzibar…… great hotel .. beautiful layout … very relaxed…great food and good evening entertainment. We had researched the available excursions before leaving the UK and also looked at those on offer from the hotel but your local agent again came up trumps by organising 2 full days combining all the things we wanted to do at a great saving of both time and money.
We do feel that the entire 13 night trip gave us good value and we achieved everything we wanted to.
We would have no hesitation in recommending AfricaSafari to our friends or indeed using you again.
Very many thanks and kind regards.
Our guide Nelson was a great driver and made sure that we got to see the big 5 and including cheetah and loads of other animals or birds. In fact the cheetah ended up sitting on the back of our jeep before moving on to a larger vehicle. The accommodation was great all the camps were good, clean and comfortable.
We particularly liked the fact that we had stayed in the Serengeti as we really got a feel for the place. Having our own vehicle with guide also meant that we could just sit and watch the animals and birds behave which was great. We were lucky enough to see lots of lions here. Really liked Taragine National park and saw loads of animals on the first day including leopard.
The booking procedures, administration etc. were all very good and the transfers were all excellent. The three parks we visited were all excellent, and sufficiently different to warrant a visit to each. The lodges were very good, but the lodge at Amboseli was outstanding, with perfect surroundings and excellent food, and a great view of Kilimanjaro from our front window (but you do need to keep your door locked to deter thieving monkeys!).
We encountered a lionesses at Amboseli, which walked right past our minibus paying no attention to us whatsoever. They were accompanied by a third lioness and two adolescent males. We saw a female cheetah with her two playful cubs. I must mention our driver, Philip, who was excellent both in his knowledge of the parks and his driving and was great company throughout the trip.
The Dubai option was the perfect counterpoint to Kenya – there could hardly be a bigger contrast. It is an ideal chill out location following the early starts on safari, but plenty to do if you want to be active. We found it really amazing, almost like science fiction.
Everything seems to have been planned meticulously, it is spotlessly clean and everything works perfectly. It is a place everybody should see.
I would like to pass on my comments regarding my recent trip to climb Kilimanjaro, which although it was hard work, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience!
The guide who was allocated to me was absolutely superb as were the rest of the team especially the chef who provided me every day with amazing food and not forgetting the very hardworking porters either.
I would be very grateful if you could pass on these comments to your team and explain that together you made this trip an extra special one for me and nothing was too much trouble.
I returned from a wonderful experience with Africasafari.co.uk on
22nd November 2013.
I was very lucky to be able to complete the ascent of Kilimanjaro by the Machame route with the final ascent by moonlight ..it was very close to a full moon) and then saw the sunrise from the summit ridge. I had an excellent support team and was well looked after throughout the trek. My vegetarian diet being well catered for.
The trek was followed by two days of safari at the Tarangire and Maryana National parks. My driver/ guide for this was Hassani and he was a mine of information about Tanzania, its history and culture as well as having an amazing knowledge of the wildlife that we saw. He had a knack for spotting wildlife while he was driving that would have been so easy for me to miss. How he spotted the pair of lions that we saw in the distance on the final day I will never know. I never expected to be up so close to so much wildlife; the sight of all the elephants at the river in Tarangire was something very special. But I was equally amazed about half an hour after we left the National Park when Hassani suddenly braked on a straight piece of road, crossed to the other side and there were 2 giraffes munching away quite happily!
The whole trip was very well organised and coordinated from the booking process, the excellent KLM flights, being greeted at the airport where visas were sorted for us, right through to departure for home. There were no problems or hitches at all.
The Springlands Hotel is a great base to start from and return to after the trek and the staff there are all very helpful and friendly. The hotel is located on the edge of Moshi and the last km of the drive there is on an amazing mud track which is an adventure in itself. I also spent a night at Highview Hotel in between the safari days. This was a hotel of very high standard although it was extremely quiet when I was there with only about 6 guest resident. My meal outside with my own personal charcoal burner was undoubtedly the best food of the holiday and I found myself surprisingly impressed by the “banana soup”.!
The highlights for me were many , but my evening at base camp followed by the final ascent( so hard!) and then to arrive at Stella Point and slowly see the dawn break all around as we headed along the ridge to the summit, was a wonderful mixed feeling of relief, physical tiredness, ,cold and most of all achievement.
The safari highlights were the elephants , baboons and warthogs which all had young and were fascinating to watch.
I had a brilliant experience and would have no hesitation in recommending your company to others.
Just wanted to let you know how it all went.
The experience was fantastic and I had a fabulous time and will definitely book another trip with your guys again!
Thank you for a time I’ll never forget!
As a family of 4, we spent endless hours on the internet try to find a good deal and struggling with availability during the peak travel season to get exactly what we wanted. After many hours I came across www.africasafari.co.uk where I found helpful operators who were terrific in tailoring the trip to what we wanted, which was 5 nights safari in Kenya and 6 nights in Zanzibar.
I was apprehensive about the safari trip as I have heard some negative things regarding accommodation which was a real concern for me. I raised this with africasafari.co.uk and they did their upmost in getting confirmation for 4 star lodges to us ASAP. This was a relief as we had left the booking so last minute. Our favourite accommodation was in Amboseli which was very clean, spacious, great bar and also the food was terrific.
Lake Nakuru Lodge was again very clean and the staff very helpful.
In Masai Mara there was the Mara river running through it with hippos, of which we got up close to and took plenty of pictures. As we booked so last minute we understood the availability issue. However, africasafari.co.uk did everything they could to ensure our safari was a memorable one.
Our drivers name was Joseph, who became part of the family and is now our friend through Facebook. His English and knowledge around the type of animals and the behaviour was unbelievable-we all learnt so much. He tailored the drives to your timings and did extra game drives when we had requested them. Seeing the cheetahs up close were the highlight of our holiday!
The only advice I can give if you are planning a safari is pack light, as on our particular tour we were moving from one accommodation to another and I think my suitcase weighed 25kg!
The second part of the holiday was the in Zanzibar at Ocean Paradise resort, which was relaxing and had great spacious rooms.
Thank you to africasafari.co.uk for making this trip happen at such short notice and we now have great memories that will make great Christmas presents through photo albums and calendars we plan to make for family.
Visiting Tarangire National Park was a great start to our trip, with a high density of diverse wildlife, and close-up, too. Elephants and baobab trees – welcome to Africa!
We enjoyed Serengeti a lot, particularly being able to watch lions hunting. Our driver/guide, David had Superman’s eyesight picking up animals and birds some distance away, or partly hidden by their camouflage and vegetation.
Ngorongoro Crater lived up to its billing, containing large herds of wildebeest that don’t join the migrations of others outside the crater. We had great views of groups of zebra around a water hole as well as many other species living on the floor of the caldera.
We were surprised just how many animals and birds we were able to see, and how close we got. Most of them must be completely habituated to the visitors, being neither interested nor alarmed by our presence. They just don’t care! You can take memorable pictures here with any camera, but having a lens of 450mm equivalent focal length (or more) certainly helps quite a lot of the time.
It was interesting to be able to spend some time at a Masai village, particularly since we were encouraged to ask any questions at all.
