The tour in short

On this tour, you experience three of southern Africa’s very biggest attractions: big city experiences in Cape Town, barren and unique landscapes in Namibia and wild nature experiences at Victoria Falls.

The tour is full of contrasts and is an excellent choice for those who may already have been on safari and dream of seeing more of Africa’s contrasting nature. Look forward to experiencing the contrasts between the Namib Desert’s red sands, the massive sand dunes at Sossusvlei and the thundering Victoria Falls. But the two cities, South Africa’s Cape Town and Namibia’s Swakopmund are two wildly different experiences as well, both in terms of history and culture.

In Cape Town, the days are at your disposal. Join one or more different excursions, which can be purchased from home, or explore the city on your own – it’s up to you.

In Namibia you travel in a small international group with a local guide who knows the area and is with you all the way. You see the biggest highlights, and there is time to go exploring in Swakopmund, climb one of the world’s largest sand dunes and admire Sesriem Canyon.

At Victoria Falls, you can experience the waterfalls on your own, or purchase excursions, depending on what you would like to experience.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Departure from the UK

Today you depart by plane from the UK to Cape Town with connecting flight(s) along the way.

Day 2: Arrival in Cape Town

You arrive in Cape Town, where you are met at the airport by our local guide and driven to your hotel. You spend 4 nights in beautiful Cape Town. The rest of the day is yours to do as you please.

Days 3-5: Experiences in Cape Town

You are free these days to explore Cape Town at your own pace.

You may visit the District Six Museum, which tells about the forced displacement of people that took place during apartheid. If you are interested in modern art, the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art is an absolute must. We also recommend that you set aside plenty of time to experience the entire area around Waterfront. Here, you can find cafés, restaurants, shops and a sea of activities and attractions. Last, but not least, you must treat yourself to a view of the city from the top of Table Mountain – Cape Town’s landmark.

You also have the option to purchase a variety of different excursions. For a number of these, it is better to order from home, as there is only room for a limited number of participants.

Day 6: Cape Town – Swakopmund

You are picked up at your hotel in Cape Town and driven to the airport, from which you fly to Walvis Bay in Namibia. Here, you are picked up and driven to your hotel in Swakopmund. The rest of the day is at your disposal.

Accommodation:
Day 7: Swakopmund

The coastal city of Swakopmund was founded in 1892 as a shipping port for German South-West Africa. A large part of the population still speaks German, and the city is considered to have some of the finest examples of German colonial architecture in the world.

The day is at your leisure to explore the city.

For example, you can head to ”The Jetty”, Swakopmund’s jetty, which has become a city trademark, explore the architecture of the city on walk or cycling trip, or visit one of the museums in the city. It is also possible to purchase various excursions – your guide will help you!

Accommodation:
Day 8: Swakopmund – Sossusvlei

It is time to say goodbye to Swakopmund and drive on an adventure through the beautiful Namibian landscapes.

You do not need to go far outside of town to see the landscape largely turn to desert. Some places practically resemble a lunar landscape, and yet there is incredible variety here. The multitude of colours and shapes impresses endlessly.

The Gaub Pass along the Naukluft Mountains are one of the day’s truly big highlights. Keep an eye out for Hartmann’s mountain zebra, which lives in this area.

Around the small town of Solitaire are countless car wrecks, reminding you that this is not a forgiving landscape.

In the afternoon, you arrive at your lodge by Sossusvlei. You have the option of purchasing a sunset excursion – or you can simply relax and enjoy the lodge’s facilities.

Please note: For departures on 6 August and 17 August 2021, you will stay at Tsauchab River Camp on instead of A Little Sossus Lodge.

Day 9: Experiences in Sossusvlei and Sesriem Canyon

You depart from the lodge early to ensure that you get the most out of the day. Sunrise here in the desert is utterly amazing. The colours that shift as the sun rises higher and higher into the sky are quite simply spectacular!

The truly major highlight of the day is naturally the visit to Sossusvlei. Dune 45 is likely one of the world’s most photographed sand dunes. Its perfect shape and red sand stand in stark contrast to the blue sky, and it truly is difficult not to run amok with your camera! There is time for you to ascend some of the huge, red sand dunes and enjoy the view of the enormous number of colours and shapes the landscape has to offer.

From Sossusvlei, the trip continues to Sesriem Canyon. Over millions of years, the Tsauchab River has carved its way through the landscape, forming this canyon. This is one of the only places in the area that has water all year round. You join a hike into the canyon itself.

At the end of the day, you are back at the lodge, where there is time to relax by the pool and process the experiences of the day.

Please note: For departures on 6 August and 17 August 2021, you will stay at Tsauchab River Camp on instead of A Little Sossus Lodge.

Day 10: Sossusvlei – Windhoek

Departure from the lodge is early once again. The tour takes you to Namibia’s capital, Windhoek, where the afternoon is at your disposal.

After the days in the desert, it may well feel a little overwhelming to come to a larger city again. The influence of the German colonial era is clear in the capital as well. You can explore the city on foot and visit museums, cafés, restaurants and shops. Namibia Craft Centre is worth a visit if you need to pick up some final souvenirs.

You spend one night in Windhoek.

Accommodation:
Day 11: Windhoek – Livingstone – Victoria Falls

You are picked up at your hotel and driven to the airport, from which you fly (with a connecting flight) to Livingstone in Zambia. Here, you are received at the airport and driven to your hotel, where you will spend three nights.

The rest of the day is at your disposal.

Days 12-13: Experiences at Victoria Falls

It practically could not be more of a contrast; from Namibia’s dry, red sand to Victoria Falls’ thundering wall of water surrounded by rainforest.

How you spend your days here by one of the world’s largest waterfalls is entirely up to you. You have the option of purchasing various excursions, but you can also choose to just relax and go exploring on your own.

It goes without saying that a walk around the waterfalls cannot be missed. In particular, the trip over Knife Edge Bridge is an absolute must. But take good care of your camera. If you are here in the rainy season (around November – April), there will be immense pressure in the waterfall, so you must expect to end up soaked – it’s an incredible experience!

Day 14: Departure day

You are picked up at the hotel with plenty of time before departure and driven to the airport.

Day 15: Arrival back home

You land in the UK after an exciting and eventful holiday.
