The tour in short

On this tour, you will discover the stunning scenery and abundant wildlife of Tsavo West National Park, followed by a beach holiday on the beautiful Kenyan coast.

Tsavo West is especially famous for its red soil, which makes the many elephants living in the park take on a reddish hue after having a mud or dust bath.

In the national park, you stay at a proper African safari camp – a tent camp with luxurious canvas tents, all of which have a private bathroom and large veranda overlooking the bush. Game drives in Tsavo are included every day, and the stay also includes full board. Enjoy a true African sundowner at the top of Poacher’s Lookout and visit the famous Mzima Springs.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Flight to Kenya

Today is departure day, and you fly to Mombasa in Kenya with stopovers on the way.

Day 2: Arrival in Mombasa

On your arrival in Mombasa, you will be picked up from the airport by our local partner and driven to your hotel. You will spend one night in Mombasa. The rest of the day can be spent by the pool or relaxing after the flight.

Day 3: Mombasa – Tsavo West National Park (5–6 hour drive)

Early in the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel and driven to Tsavo National Park.

Tsavo is Kenya’s largest and second-oldest national park and actually consists of two national parks: Tsavo East and Tsavo West. Both are packed with scenic landscapes, but Tsavo West has more vegetation than Tsavo East. And the landscape in West is generally more varied and dramatic, with highlands, lava landscapes, lakes, swamps and springs.

Besides its landscapes, Tsavo West is known for its abundant bird life and the relatively good chances of seeing the rare black rhino. But there are also buffalo, elephants, lions, hippos, giraffes and various antelope species here in the park.

Long before you arrive at your accommodation, the first “game drive” begins. The drive from the gate to the camp takes a couple of hours, and the chances of you spotting your first wild animals from this point are strong.

The camp you will be staying at the next few nights is situated close to the Tsavo River and just a few kilometres from the natural springs, Mzima Springs, one of the absolute natural highlights of Tsavo West. Millions of litres of fresh water spew up from the ground here every day. It comes from the melt waters of Kilimanjaro and from rainwater in the surrounding mountains, and much of it is pumped out to the coast, supplying Mombasa with drinking water. The rest runs out into the nearby rivers and bringing life to the area.

Upon your arrival, lunch is waiting for you at the camp restaurant, and in the afternoon, there is a visit to Mzima Springs, which are home to hippos, crocodiles and a profusion of birds.

In the evening, you will enjoy a delicious dinner at the camp restaurant and the African night around the camp fire.

Day 4: Tsavo West National Park

You start the day with an early morning game drive along the Tsavo River. The river is life-giving for a great many animals, which often make their way down to the water to drink in the early morning – keep an eye out for hippos and crocodiles in particular.

Breakfast awaits you back at the camp. The morning is free for relaxation. Maybe the pool and a good book are calling? It’s also possible to book a massage at the camp spa.

Enjoy the view of the savannah while having lunch in the restaurant.

In the afternoon, it’s time for the highlight of the day: a true African “sundowner” from Poachers’ Lookout. On a clear day, you have fantastic views over the plains with Kilimanjaro in the background.

The way back to the camp becomes an evening game drive. When the sun has set, and Africa has cooled down, the nocturnal animals come out. You drive along under the vast starry sky, on the lookout for the cute little bush babies sitting in the trees and staring with their huge eyes – and lions getting ready to go hunting. Dinner awaits you back at the camp.

Day 5: Tsavo West National Park – Mombasa (5–6-hour drive)

After breakfast, the drive back to Mombasa begins. But just as when you arrived, part of the trip takes place in the national park, so the morning offers both a game drive and views of the beautiful scenery. On the way to Mombasa, you will have lunch before arriving at your hotel in the afternoon.

Days 6-8: Mombasa

The morning is your own in Mombasa. Relax at the resort, enjoy the beautiful beach and the beautiful sea or take excursions in and around the city. The choice is yours.

Day 9: Departure day

You will be picked up from the hotel and driven to the airport, where your journey home starts.

Day 10: Arrival in the UK

The plane lands in the UK late morning.
