Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Departure from the UK

Today, you will fly from the UK to Johannesburg with connecting flight(s) along the way.

Day 2: Arrival and transfer to Bongani Mountain Lodge

Upon your arrival in Johannesburg, you will be met at the airport by our local Partners. From the airport, you will head east to Bongani Mountain Lodge, which will be your home for the next three nights.

Bongani Mountain Lodge is located in the private Mthethomusha Game Reserve, and for the next few days you will go on safari here in the reserve as well as in the world-renowned Kruger National Park.

The rest of the day is yours to do as you please, so you can relax at the lodge and enjoy the beautiful view.

Day 3: Safari in Kruger National Park

You will leave the lodge early in the morning and you will not be back until late in the day.

It’s impossible to say what the day has in store for you. What you will see, nobody knows. This is precisely why a game drive gives even the most seasoned safari guests butterflies in their stomach! The feeling of being there where the animals live is absolutely overwhelming.

Impalas, buffaloes, giraffes and elephants emerge from the bush and disappear again. There are storks, eagles and vultures, crocodiles, hippos – and lions. There is no guarantee of seeing the Big Five, but the chances are really high. You might like to bring a pair of binoculars with you from home, so you can help keep an eye out.

In the middle of the day, there is a lunch break at one of the many camp sites found in the park. There is a small café here where you can buy food and drinks and maybe a snack or two.

At the end of the day, you will return to the lodge and enjoy a good dinner.

Day 4: Safari with game drive

You’ll be going on safari again today – this time in the game reserve you are in.

You leave the lodge before sunrise. Remember to wrap up warm! It’s cold in Africa at night before the sun rises. It’s a very special feeling, sitting safely in the comfort of the car, knowing that there are lions around you on their way home from the night’s hunt, and that the elephants are on their way to the watering hole for a morning dip. The sun soon rises, and you can see the first outlines of the wild animals.

When the sun is so hot that the animals become lazy, it’s time to head back to the lodge, where a lavish brunch and good chat about the morning’s experiences await. Do as the animals do and take a nap or enjoy a refreshing swim in the pool.

The rest of the day is yours to do as you please. The view from the lodge is amazing, so you might just want to relax and enjoy it. It’s also possible to have a massage after all those hours in the safari car.

Day 5: Bongani Mountain Lodge – Cape Town

You head from Bongani Mountain Lodge to Cape Town. You will be driven to the airport, where you will catch a flight to South Africa’s most beautiful city. You will be met by our local partner and driven to your hotel, where you’ll be staying for the next four nights.

Days 6-8: Cape Town

Beautifully flanked by mountains offering an array of scenic nature experiences within easy reach, one white sandy beach after another, great shopping, sights and activities for everyone – and not least a wide selection of restaurant and dining experiences. Cape Town is possibly one of the world’s loveliest cities.

The next few days are yours to explore the city as the urge takes you.

If you’re here for the culinary experiences, you have a treat in store for you! Classics such as bobotie, biltong, springbuck carpaccio and bunny chow are to be found all over the place, but there is also a great deal of experimentation, mixing old and new, and fusion kitchens thrive in the city.

If you would like to experience some of the most popular places such as Robben Island, a visit to a township or a trip to the top of Table Mountain, we recommend booking from home, as they sell out quickly.

Day 9: Cape Town – full-day excursion in the Winelands

From Cape Town, the tour now takes you to the lush Winelands. It’s only an hour’s drive away, but it’s a whole different world you come to, with green vineyards and houses built in the characteristic Cape Dutch style. In the background you can see the mountains, which are one of reasons the valleys of the Winelands are so excellent for viticulture.

The day offers wine tastings at three wineries: Paarl, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. In Stellenbosch, there is time for a guided walk through the historic part of the town, and there is a tour of a vineyard. In Franschhoek, a ride awaits you on the famous “Winetram”, a train that runs between the vineyards in the area – a fun and very charming experience. You will ride through the scenic Helshoogte mountain pass before checking in at your hotel in the Winelands, where you will spend two nights at the famous Spier winery.

Day 10: The Winelands

Today is yours to do as you please. Spier is almost a tiny village, so there is plenty to do. There are several great walks to choose from, or you can enjoy a spa treatment, a dip in one of the hotel’s pools or a Segway ride – and then, of course, you can taste the winery’s wines.

Day 11: The Winelands – Departure day

The time has come to say goodbye to South Africa. You will be picked up from your hotel and driven to the airport in Cape Town, from which you fly to the UK, with connecting flight(s) along the way.

Day 12: Arrival back home

You land in the UK after an exciting and eventful holiday.
