THE TOUR IN SHORT

This tour combines three of the absolute highlights of southern Africa: the mighty Victoria Falls on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, a safari in Botswana’s amazing Chobe National Park and vibrant, scenic Cape Town in South Africa. Water, safari and city break in one and the same holiday.

Before even landing, you may be lucky enough to catch your first glimpse of one of the world’s largest waterfalls. It probably looks most like a cloud rising from the ground, and that’s not far wrong. The spray from the waterfalls often rises several hundred metres into the air. You will have ample opportunity to explore the area around Victoria Falls before heading to Botswana.

In Botswana, you will spend three nights just outside the stunning Chobe National Park, which is home to the largest number of elephants in the world. Chobe is a fantastic safari destination, as you have traditional safaris on land in the national park and the possibility of water-based safaris on the Chobe River. The wildlife is rich and diverse.

The tour rounds off in beautiful Cape Town, where you have the option to buy a variety of excursions, all depending on what you want to see and do. Option of extending the tour to include a beach holiday in Mauritius.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Departure from the UK

Today is departure day, and you fly to Zambia with stopover(s) on the way.

Day 2: Arrival Victoria Falls

On your arrival in Livingstone, Zambia, you are picked up from the airport by our local partner and driven to your hotel. You will spend three nights on the banks of the Zambezi.

Days 3-4: Experiences at Victoria Falls

The days at Victoria Falls are spent at your leisure. However, we recommend that you book a couple of excursions from home as they are extremely popular, and in some places there are limits to the number of participants on the tours.

It goes without saying that a walk around the waterfalls is a must. We particularly recommend the walk on Knife Edge Bridge from which you get a unique view of the waterfalls. During the rainy season (around November–April), you should be prepared to get pretty much soaked through on the walk. But the air temperature is warm, so it’s actually fun to feel the forces of nature at such close quarters!

There is a lot to see and do. The area is a veritable activity mecca offering a wealth of experiences.

Day 5: Transport from Victoria Falls to Chobe National Park in Botswana

You will be picked up from the hotel and set off for Botswana, a drive of around 4–5 hours, depending on the waiting time at the border crossing in Kazungula. Kazungula is a small village located right on the banks of the Zambezi River where no fewer than four different countries meet: Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia. Zambia and Botswana are linked by a bridge. A fun fact: The bridge arches in the way it does, so as not to clash with the boundaries of Namibia and Zimbabwe.

You will spend three nights in Kasane, the main town at Chobe.

Day 6: Chobe National Park

Today, you will experience the national park. This day features a relaxing boat ride on the river, where you have excellent opportunities to get up close to hippopotamuses, in addition to a completely traditional game drive on land.

Sustainable tourism is a focus area of the Botswanan government , so you will experience unspoiled, exciting nature with fantastic and abundant wildlife. In Chobe National Park, you are in with a chance of seeing buffaloes, elephants, lions, cheetahs and leopards. Keep an eye out for the incredible bird life on this tour as well – including Botswana’s gorgeous national bird, the lilac-breasted roller.

In the evening, you are back at the lodge, where dinner awaits you.

Day 7: Chobe National Park

Exciting experiences await you in the national park again today. The order is reversed compared to yesterday, allowing you to get the most out of your stay here. You will therefore be starting with a game drive in the park in the morning, with sailing on the river in afternoon. Naturally, there will also be time for you to enjoy the pool and perhaps have a massage.

Day 8: Kasane – Cape Town

Departure from the hotel to the airport after breakfast. Unless there is an elephant in the road (a not uncommon problem in Kasane!), it takes about 7 minutes to drive to the airport.

From here, you will fly to Cape Town in South Africa, where our local representative is waiting for you at the airport. You will be driven to the hotel where you will spend the last four nights of your African adventure.

Days 9-11: Cape Town

The days you spend in Cape Town are at your leisure, and there is plenty to see and do here.

Cape Town is located at the foot of the beautiful famous Table Mountain, from which you can enjoy the view of the Cape of Good Hope, wine country and the dark blue Atlantic Ocean with Nelson Mandela’s prison island, Robben Island. A visit to Robben Island is on the list of “must-dos” in Cape Town.

The central place for all visitors to Cape Town is the area around the Waterfront, where you can easily spend a whole day browsing in shops, watching entertaining performances, drinking coffee, laughing at the lumbering seals and eating ice cream.

Cape Town also offers a host of historical sights, fascinating buildings, interesting museums and lots of good restaurants.

Day 12: Departure day

The time has come to say goodbye to South Africa. You will be picked up from your hotel and driven to the airport, from which you fly to the UK, with connecting flight(s) along the way.

Day 13: Arrival back home

You land in the UK after an exciting and eventful holiday.

The Winelands of South Africa
2 nights

Exquisite wine, good food, history and gorgeous nature – all this can be expected from a visit to South Africa’s Winelands.

The lovely Winelands sit just a half-hour drive away from Cape Town. Here, there are soft hills with lush slopes, broken up here and there by crumbling cliffs, small, pleasant villages with charming Cape Dutch houses – as well as vineyards and wineries.

The valleys surrounding Cape Town are ideal for growing wine grapes. The mountains provide both water and shelter from the wind, the soil is well-drained and the climate is approximately like the Mediterranean.

The town of Stellenbosch was founded in 1679 by the governor of the Cape colony, making it the second-oldest European settlement in South Africa after Cape Town.

In 1690, the Huguenots brought the first grape vines to the field, founding its wine production history.

On this extension to the Winelands, you spend two nights at the 5-star Erinvale Hotel & Spa, and you will of course receive a guided full-day excursion to Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek.

Beach holiday in Mauritius
5 nights

The tropical island of Mauritius is one of the most exclusive and fascinating islands in the Indian Ocean. With its delightful climate and friendly population, this little slice of paradise is the perfect setting for an exotic holiday. The island is typically associated with relaxation and romance, but it is also ideal for everyone who loves gastronomic treats, water sports and beautiful countryside. Mauritius is ringed with beautiful beaches lined with swaying palm trees, crystal clear water and brightly coloured coral reefs. The landscape features lush forests, fields of sugar cane, tall mountains, roaring waterfalls and dramatic stretches of coast dotted with small lagoons. The capital, Port Louis, is home to a variety of fine shops and fascinating museums.
